That is the message to the medical community in the article The Missing Link: How Dialogue Can Transform Hip Dysplasia Care in this month's O&P Edge magazine (see end of post for link). I was honored to be a part of such a powerful article that highlighted how more often than not, the medical community does not educate new parents once they hand down a hip dysplasia diagnosis to their child.My participation in the article was spearheaded by Betsy Miller, author of The Parents' Guide to Hip Dysplasia. I've said it before, but it bears repeating. Betsy's book is an invaluable tool in the hip journey.
The article will hopefully make it into the hands of medical professionals who maybe haven't taken the time to address concerns the parents have after diagnosis. They can and should offer practical advice (car seat, clothing) rather than leave most of these parents clueless as to what to expect when they leave the Dr. office with their now 'hip' kid.
